AMD Pharmacogenetics

Eye Supplements For AMD

The Vita Risk pharmacogenetic result provides a recommendation of either the AREDS formulation with or without Zinc. The original AREDS formulation contained: 500 mg vitamin C, 400 IU Vitamin E, 15 mg β-carotene, 80 mg zinc and 2 mg copper. Newer AREDS formulations based on AREDS2 may contain lutein and zeaxanthin in lieu of β-carotene. The AREDS2 investigators concluded that lutein and zeaxanthin were a safe and effective alternative to the antioxidant β-carotene [10].
